I am excited to introduce our new luxury men’s swimwear line, KOLIBRI. I am a stylist in Dallas and have always had the pleasure of helping men find their style. I realized that there was not a lot of swimwear variety for men that were luxurious, vibrant, and functional. So I decided to help fill that gap with a new luxury line that would fulfill that need. But, I also wanted to create a brand that was fully sustainable as our family is very passionate about the cleanliness of our oceans.
As I started to learn how mother nature’s waters were being diminished and trashed, it made me more passionate about that part of our line. The first step to an eco-smart solution is to be educated. After researching many different types of fabrics, we decided to use Repreve microfiber made from recycled performance fiber and plastic bottles. We have all seen plastics in the oceans and using them for a good cause made me feel like I was doing something to help. Repreve is eco-friendly because it is not a “virgin fiber,” which means new and not recycled at all. By using this fiber, we are decreasing carbon emissions, thus making baby steps to help save our planet.
In addition to the fabric, we are focused on the highest standard for all parts of our products to be fully sustainable. This includes our zippers, and buttons, in addition to our fabric. We use vendors that support our efforts. SAB is the first enterprise that passed zippers and buttons as GRS certification for the recyclability of their product materials.
We are proud to be a women-owned company where we feel we can take the narrative of being sustainable to the next level. We work with the Ocean Conservancy on initiatives and bills that will help protect our oceans from unwanted plastics that hurt the environment.
